Santa Monica, CA -- ICONIX Software Engineering, industry leader in
object-oriented training, has released the 4th volume in a series of
multimedia tutorials detailing Microsoft's COM technology. "Volume 4: 'MTS/MSMQ/COM+'," is
the fourth in a series of 5 tutorials covering the Component Object Model. Volume 4
begins by discussing the complex nature of distributed development and the problems
which need to be solved. An explanation of the Microsoft Transaction Server, a
server side environment for creating large scale distributed systems, takes
the viewer through the execution of an MTS transaction. Topics covered
include: Activities, Role based security, MTS transaction support and Just in time activation.
The tutorial then takes a look at message queuing and the Microsoft Message
Queuing Server (MSMQ), using narrated source code as examples. Animated
diagrams help to explaning queueing, step-by-step.

The anatomy of COM+ transactions is covered in detail, including the use of
proxies and interceptors. Use of the COM+ catalog and event service is
explained, as well as the COM+ In Memory Database. A variety of advanced
COM topics, such as compensating resource managers, is also discussed.

between different transaction contexts, and the COM+ Explorer.
