ICONIX announces "Comprehensive COM, Volume 5: ActiveX Template Library"

Santa Monica, CA.--- ICONIX Software Engineering, industry leader in object-oriented training, has released the fifth volume in a series of multimedia tutorials detailing Microsoft's COM technology. "Volume 5: Programming with ATL," is the fifth in a series of six tutorials covering the Component Object Model. This tutorial begins by discussing Microsoft's Active Template Library (ATL), a class library, which allows the user to create a variety of small-fast COM object/ActiveX controls. An examination of the advantages of using ATL in the process of learning COM programming techniques is also included. ATL provides the user with most of the boiler plate code, allowing for concentration on the functionality provided by the COM object.

Additional topics include: Implementing COM classes in ATL, limitations and strengths of ATL and how it can be used effectively in COM programming projects. This volume also includes a number of interactive demonstrations and code samples, which provide the student with COM and ATL programming experience. The final part of Volume 5 is devoted to dissecting and extending the code generated by the ATL wizards.

Earlier COM volumes focused on the client's perspective (Vol. 1), COM from the server-side (Vol.2), DCOM internals/ActiveX technologies (Vol.3), and MTS/MSMQ/COM+ (Vol. 4).

Recognized around the world as leaders in the OO software engineering technology, ICONIX's popular multimedia CD-ROM tutorials are currently in widespread use in over 40 countries. All CBT tutorials are available directly through calling ICONIX or by ordering at the secure on-line site.
